Parent Volunteers Needed at NYPS's CL Pictorial Corner
Parent Volunteers Needed!
Chinese Pictorial Book Corner of NYPS has finally finished its STOCK-TAKING!
From next week onwards, all Parent Volunteers of CL pictorial book corner and teachers of NYPS are allowed to borrow the pictorial books out of the library. We have about 1000 Pictorial Books in the library and another 300 new books coming in 2 weeks later. We always update the corner with new books freshly imported in from countries such as China and Taiwan.
*NOTE: Only Parents who are helping out at the Pictorial Book Corner are allowed to borrow the books out of the library.
The pupils are still unable to borrow the books out of the library as the books are still relatively new and expensive. We may look into the probability of enabling the pupils to borrow these books out of the library from next year onwards when we managed to find parent volunteers who can help out with the administrative work.
Currently, we need 1-2 Parent Volunteer who can help us facilitate the borrowing and returning of CL Pictorial books in and out of the library. With your help, the pupils can therefore borrow and return the books in and out of the library.
Although we have a librarian in the library, she is unable to help out as her job scope does not require her to handle matters of the CL Pictorial Book Corner. The books from the CL Pictorial Book Corner are also not recorded into the library system.
Therefore, we would like to appeal for Parent Volunteers who are willing to help out as a librarian of the library, and facilitate the borrowing and returning of Pictorial Books. Your job is to help take down names and contact numbers of those who came to borrow/return Pictorial Books and remind them of the date of return. Also, you may have to track down those who have forgotten to return the books before the deadline.
Working time is flexible. You may report to the library at 8.30am and leave at 12pm sharp from Monday-Friday. If we manage to find more parent volunteers, we may look into staggering your schedule so that you may not have to report to the library 5 days a week.
There is no requirement for you to speak fluent mandarin.
If you are interested to be part of us, please kindly email me at lim_ke_xin@nyps.edu.sg or call me in school to find out more. You may also go to CL Pictorial Blog: http://www.nypshbg.blogspot.com/ to find out more.
Looking forward to your kind support :)

Introducing two members to P2 teachers' Team!
We are proud to welcome two new members to the P2 teachers' team, Mr Fei Meng and Ms Rebecca Lim Ching Ling! :)
Mr Fei Meng will be taking over Ms Zhou Jing's duty as 2F and 2K's Chinese Language teacher. He holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Education, specialising in Primary Chinese Education. Besides this, he has completed his BA in NTU and 'A' level in Hwa Chong Junior College.
Mr Fei Meng did his practical teaching in NYPS for 3 months this year and is very familiar with the culture and learning environment of the school. His mentor teacher will be our Senior Teacher - Ms Low Miow Noi, who is also the recipient of The Caring Teacher Award 2010.
With Mr Fei's positive attitude and the appointment of Ms Low as a teacher mentor to him, the school is confident that the pupils in 2F and 2K will have a smooth learning transition in the change of Chinese Language teacher. The pupils will also learn and benefit greatly from learning Chinese language with different teaching pedagogies under Mr Fei.
Another new member to the team will be Ms Rebecca Lim Ching Ling, who will be the new Form Teacher and EL teacher for class 2K.
Ms. Lim holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education, specialising in teaching English. She is a trained teacher with 4 years of teaching experience. She has been co-teaching together with Mrs Lynn Lee in 2H and 2K since April this year. Before Ms Zhou Jing left NYPS, she has also spent time briefing Ms. Lim on the dynamics of the class and things to take note of. This ensures a smoother transition for the pupils when Ms. Lim takes over the class officially when school reopens.
Mr Fei's email will be fei_meng@nyps.edu.sg . Ms. Lim's email will be rebecca_lim_ching_ling@nyps.edu.sg.
If you have any queries, please email me directly at lim_ke_xin@nyps.edu.sg.

The Nanyang Alumni Association, Nanyang Primary and Nanyang Girls’ High School are going to organise a fund raising art event for Nanyang Primary Indoor Sports Hall and other construction projects. The art exhibition will be held at The ARTrium, MICA Building from 25th to 28th March 2010.
Other than having art work for sale at the exhibition, there is also a ‘Birthday Calendar’ available for sale at $50 each. This calendar is not a conventional time-bound calendar. As such, this calendar will serve as a precious momento for your child, even after he/she leaves the school.
Below are pictures to provide you with a glimpse of what this ‘Birthday Calendar’ looks like. We really hope you can support us in this fund raising art event by purchasing a copy of the calendar.
To show your support, just fill up the Order Form which will be given together with a letter by tomorrow. Payments to be made by cheque made payable to 'Nanyang Primary School'. Generous donations above the listed price of $50 is most appreciated and we really thank you for your support!

Please kindly note that the P1 & P2 Meet The Parents Session has been postponed to

The reason for this postponement is because there will be an Art Exhibition in Term 2 Week 1, and most of our P1 and P2 teachers are involved in the preparation work.
We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused. If you have any urgent matters, please kindly contact your child's form teacher.
Thank you very much for your understanding. Have a great day!

Pls be reminded to submit a passport size photo of your child to the form teacher latest by this week. The passport size photo will be used for the Holistic Assessment Portfolio for each pupil.
Do take note that Meet The Parents Session for P1 and P2 will be adjourned to
TERM 2 WEEK 1. This is because all teachers currently require more time to prepare your child's holistic portfolio and comments. Thank you for your kind understanding.
You will be receiving a notification letter from all form teachers. You can either contact the form teacher through email, phone or face-to-face meetup.
The Chinese Pictorial Book Corner in the library (Hui Ben Guan) will be officially opened to all pupils during recess time next week. Mr Lim Hock Lai and a group of parent volunteers will be present to read Chinese Stories to the children during recess. This is a very valuable experience and do encourage your child to attend after he/she has eaten.
Thank you for your time in reading! Have a good day! :)

Dear parents,
Yesterday, 2A-2F pupils have their first eat together session in class and they were all very well-behaved. Most of the pupils were very appreciative of the food that was given to them and greeted the teachers and peers before digging in. This is the kind of traditional values we hope to instil into the children, so they learn to respect their elders and friends.
A handful of pupils were rather reluctant to try the vegetables initially. However, after much encouragement and persuasion from the teachers (not to waste food), they ate it and enjoyed it thoroughly. Great job teachers & P2 pupils! :)
Photos will be uploaded soon :)
For your information, CNY Spring Cleaning will be carried out in 12th Feb, Friday, during the last two periods. Pupils are required to bring a rag along and do simple cleaning up of the classrooms.
We will be having our CNY celebration after our CNY holiday break, which falls on 18th Feb, Thursday. Pupils will be asked to bring mandarin oranges and come in traditional chinese costume (if they have). It will definitely be a good CNY celebration with teachers and peers! Yeah!
More details will be updated again. Meanwhile, i certainly hope all children are enjoying their time in P2. Take care. :)

Dear Parents,
In an effort to enhance our pupils learning of Chinese Language, a 8 week after school program to introduce idioms to the pupils as well as strengthening their oral skills will commence in week 3. Please refer to the table below for the schedule:
2A – 2F Monday 2-3pm
2G – 2M Tuesday 2-3pm
Please note that lunch will be provided. In conjunction with the school’s emphasis on the importance of recycling, we seek your kind cooperation by equipping your child with 1 spoon, 1 lunchbox and 1 plastic bag so they can have lunch in the classroom once per week. Pupils will bring home their utensils to wash.
If your child is unable to attend the enrichment classes due to other commitment, please kindly inform your child's form teacher so that prior arrangement can be made for your child to join another class on another day.
Please ensure that your child’s name and class is clearly labelled on the lunchbox as well as on the utensils. Pupils who are on halal diet will be provided with a separate menu. As for pupils who are vegetarians, they will be provided with meal that does not contain any meat. However, if you are worried that your child may be hungry after the meal, you may prepare additional light snacks for him/her.
Pupils who are taking school bus at 4pm will be brought to the library. They will be taken care of by teachers on duties.
Do note that you will be paying for the enrichment class and it will be included in the co-curricular activities payment.
If you have any queries, please contact your child’s Chinese teacher. Lastly, we look forward to your child having an enjoyable lunch time with teachers and peers!
